How to store ghee at home so it stays fresh
Ghee is stable, but it keeps best when you look after it. The storage advice on the KUMUD jar is simple: store it in a cool, dry place and keep the container tightly closed.
Use a clean, dry spoon every time. Water or crumbs from a wet spoon can spoil ghee early.
Keep the jar away from the stove, steam and direct sunlight. A kitchen cupboard works well, and shade matters more in a hot Lucknow summer.
Ghee changes with the weather. It turns firm and grainy when it is cool and soft or liquid when it is warm. A change in texture alone is not a sign that it has spoiled.
If it smells sour or off, or you see mould, do not use it.
